It also has two built-in serial ports (RS-232 and RS-485) and 20K of optional local logic memory. The NIU occupies two slots on the universal backplane.
  • Two (2) IC695ETM001 Ethernet Modules: These modules provide the physical Ethernet ports (10/100 Mbps) for the NIU. They connect the remote I/O station to the main PLC’s network via Ethernet. Each ETM module occupies one slot, so the kit requires a total of four slots on an RX3i universal backplane.

The NIU and ETM modules work together to create a slave I/O station that automatically exchanges data with a master PLC using protocols like Ethernet Global Data (EGD).
