The GE IS200FHVBG1ABA High Voltage Gate Inverter Board (FHVB) is a crucial component primarily used in GE’s LS2100 Static Starter Control series and EX2100 Excitation Control Systems.
It is sometimes referred to as the High Voltage Gate Interface Board or Load-Commutated Inverter.
⚡ Core Function
The primary role of the FHVB board is to interface and protect the low-voltage control logic from the high-voltage power components in the system’s power conversion bridges.
- SCR Gate Interface: It receives the low-level firing commands from the main control processor (such as the LS2100’s FPGA board) and converts them into the precise, high-current, and electrically isolated gating signals required to safely fire the high-power SCRs (Silicon-Controlled Rectifiers) or Thyristors in the exciter or inverter bridge.
- Cell Voltage Monitoring: It is equipped with sensors and circuitry to monitor the voltage across the SCRs (often referred to as cell voltage monitoring). This is a critical diagnostic and protective function.
- Status Feedback: It contains circuits that can determine whether the SCRs are in a blocking (off) or conducting (on) state. If a blocking voltage is improperly detected, it transmits this cell status data to the main processor to trigger diagnostic alarms (like lighting the red C STAT LED) or protective shutdowns.
- Isolation and Safety: The board is essential for providing the high-level of electrical isolation required to safely operate and monitor the high-voltage bridges, protecting the sensitive, low-voltage control electronics from potentially damaging transient voltages.
The board is typically installed within the high-voltage power cabinet, often with one FHVB board required per SCR or cell in the power bridge, depending on the specific LCI or excitation system configuration.
