Triconex 3615E Supervised Digital Output Module
The Triconex 3615E is a Triple-Modular Redundant (TMR) Supervised Digital Output (SDO) module designed for use in safety-critical applications. As a supervised module, it is uniquely engineered to provide continuous diagnostic coverage of both the module and its field wiring, which is essential for outputs that may remain in a single state for extended periods. This module has 8 points and operates on a nominal voltage of 48 VDC.
Triple-Modular Redundancy and Comprehensive Diagnostics
The Triconex 3615E combines the highest level of fault tolerance with advanced self-diagnostics to ensure the integrity of your safety system.
- Triple-Modular Redundancy (TMR): The module’s internal electronics are fully triplicated. It receives output signals from three Main Processors, which are then voted on by a quadruplicated output switch. This 2-out-of-3 voting architecture ensures that a single component failure will not cause an undesired output change, providing unmatched reliability and fault tolerance.
- Supervised Outputs: The “Supervised” feature is a key differentiator. The module uses internal voltage and current loopback circuitry to continuously monitor the health of the output switch, the integrity of the field circuit, and the presence of the load. This allows it to detect a variety of field faults, including:
- Blown fuses
- Open or missing loads
- Field shorts
- 48 VDC High-Power Output: Designed to control a wide range of industrial equipment, the module can switch a maximum current of 2A per point and is suitable for operating everything from solenoids and contactors to alarm indicators that run on direct current.

Application Areas
The Triconex 3615E is a vital component in safety-critical systems that require high-integrity output signals and continuous diagnostics.
- Emergency Shutdown Systems (ESD): Used to control final elements like solenoid valves and other DC-powered devices for process shutdown, where a supervised output ensures the control signal reaches its destination.
- Fire & Gas Detection Systems: Ideal for triggering alarms, horn strobes, and other emergency devices that run on DC power, where a fault in the output circuit must be immediately detected.
- Oil & Gas: In refineries and petrochemical plants, it’s used to actuate safety systems in applications where 48 VDC is the standard for control power.
